your privacy matters

RoadWatch GH collects data in accordance with Ghana's Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843). This page explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. Last updated: 1 August 2026.

This is a summary of our practices, written to match the consent screen you see when you first open the app. It doesnt replace formal legal advice .

1. Information we collect

We collect two categories of data, and only what's needed to run the app:
  • Location data. Your GPS location is used to show hazards near you and to tag the location of any hazard you report. It is never sold or shared with third parties.
  • Usage & reports. Hazard reports you submit, and general app usage data, help us improve road safety features. All data is anonymised before any aggregation or analysis.

2. How we use your information

  • To show you a live map of hazards near your location or along your saved routes.
  • To attach an accurate location to hazard reports you submit, so other drivers can find them.
  • To send you alerts when a new hazard appears on a route you've saved, if you've enabled notifications.
  • To understand, in aggregate and anonymised form, which roads and regions need the most attention.

3. What we don't do

  • We don't sell your location or personal data to anyone.
  • We don't share your data with third parties for marketing purposes.
  • We don't require an account to view the public hazard map -you can use core features as a guest.

4. Your rights under Act 843

As a data subject under Ghana's Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843), you have the right to:
  • Access the personal data we hold about you.
  • Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • Request deletion of your account and associated personal data.
  • Withdraw consent for location tracking at any time in Settings -some features, like showing nearby hazards, will stop working without it.

5. Data retention

We keep account data for as long as your account is active. Hazard reports remain visible on the public map as long as they're relevant to other drivers, and are automatically archived once resolved or stale. You can request deletion of your account and personal data at any time.

6. Children's privacy

RoadWatch GH is intended for drivers and road users. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18.

7. Changes to this policy

We'll update this page if our practices change, and where the change is material, we'll let existing users know in the app before it takes effect.
